Windmills in Algarve Portugal

The western Algarve can be a pretty windy place with strong breezes blowing in from the Atlantic. A number of picturesque windmills were built in the 19th century on the Algarve coast and were used as olive and corn mills.

A number of the Algarve region's preserved and historic windmills have now been tastefully converted into self-catering holiday cottages or homes.

There are windmills to let in Albufeira, Tavira, Salema and other towns on the Algarve coast.
