Albufeira Toy Train, Algarve

Albufeira, like many other major resorts in the Algarve, has a toy train (Comboio Turistico), that ferries visitors to the town center from outlying beaches, shopping centers and other places of importance in the town. The service is operated by Turistem Transportes using German-made trains.

There are now two routes running in Albufeira.

Albufeira's toy trains run in a circular route from 9 am-11 pm with trains every 20 minutes. In the summer months, namely June, July, August and September trains run 9 am to 1 am with toy trains every 20 minutes. On August 20 (Albufeira municipal holiday) and New Year's Eve trains run at 20 minute intervals from 9 am-4 pm.

Fares

The normal price for adults in presently 4 Euros for a one way ticket or 6 Euros for a one day pass. Children under 11 and seniors over 65 travel for 3.50 Euros for the normal fare or 5 Euros for the one-day pass.

A Combo ticket for both routes is 7 Euros or 6 Euros for concessions.

Routes

There are six stops on route 1:

The Town Hall or Câmara Municipal (1) for the main post office and government offices, Oura / Areias de S.João (2) at the top of The Strip (North), the main bar and restaurant boulevard to the east of central Albufeira, then Areias Market (3), next The Strip (South) (4), then Forte de São João (5) for Praia dos Alemães, and finally Praia dos Pescadores or Fisherman's Beach (6) at the top of the escalator for the main beach and the old town.

There are four stops on route 2:

The Marina (1), São Sebastião Church (2), Museu de Arqueologia (3), and the Viewpoint - Samora Barros (4).

Giro Buses

The other public transport option in Albufeira, besides taxis, is the local Giro bus. There are five circular routes beginning and ending at the bus station in Caliços.

The five Giro buses are:
Linha Verde (Green line)
Linha Azul (Blue Line)
Linha Vermelha (Red Line)
Linha Vermelha 2 (Red Line 2)
Linha Laranja (Orange Line)
