Aqueduto da Agua de Prata (Aqueduct of Silver Water), Evora

The Aqueduto da Agua de Prata (Aqueduct of Silver Water) is best seen outside the city walls of Evora.

The building of the aqueduct is described in the poem Os Lusíadas by Portuguese poet Luís Vaz de Camões (1524-1580) and was one of the wonders of its time.

The aqueduct reaches Evora in the peaceful district of Rua do Cano, where houses and shops are built into the arches.

The Aqueduto da Amoreira in nearby Elvas is another fine aqueduct.
