Póvoa de Varzim is a beach resort north of Porto that can be reached on the Porto metro. There's a long strip of fine beach, though the water of the Atlantic Ocean is fairly cold and windy even in mid-August.

Facilities
There's an outdoor pool, bar and restaurant and private access to the beach. There is also a tennis court and a children's playground.
The rooms are clean and spacious, though the Wifi was a little weak on the higher floors. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms, safes and A/C.
The buffet breakfast was excellent but get there early to avoid the crowds as the hotel is popular with local people in the height of summer.
English is spoken at reception.
